Thursday 25 September, 2014

Students moved into their new placement this morning and I am thrilled to get going, especially with the students I got to meet this morning.  Everyone seemed eager and ready to go.  I am looking forward to some great learning and wonderful experiences this year!  The following is what I have placed on the homework board so far.  The grade sevens have done a few other assignments and I will set fair due dates for those in the coming days.

1) Please bring the following items to school asap (I'm thinking by next Wednesday should be enough time):
Calculator
Planner money ($5)
Sketchbook (which could be as simple as a duotang with blank paper in it or one bought at a store)
Dictionary
Thesaurus
French-English Dictionary
1 or 2 binders

2) Spelling Pre-List #1 due Tuesday **I went over the Spelling/Vocabulary program with the students today. While it can seem quite confusing at first, it's really not that bad and after they've gone through how it works once, most students catch right on. The big thing is to ensure a solid effort is given to try to complete their first Pre-List before Monday night, so that if there are problems or questions, they can be answered before the list is due.

Also, the Pre-List will be a weekly commitment, so after this initial communication, I will not be putting Pre-Lists on the homework blog; they will just be due the first day of every week (and the only reason they are due on the second day of the week next week is to give time to ask questions if any problems arise on this first time).

Tuesday, 23 September, 2014

Hello and welcome back to another school year!  I am very excited to be back and I see a lot of kids who are the same.

Currently, I have been working with the Grade sevens until we sort out the classes.  We have already begun doing some work and getting everyone's brains back into the mindset of school.  It has been a positive start.

I like to use this blog to lay out for parents the homework assignments we have on the go. Once planners are distributed (which will happen once I get my full class), time will be given to fill in the planners at the end of each day. The blog does not replace each student's responsibility to write down whatever work applies to them; it is simply a tool that parents can use to help keep themselves informed as to what is going on in class.

I look forward to meeting or reconnecting with parents and families as soon as possible.
